Channel trajectories control deep‐water stratigraphic architecture

چکیده
Abstract Interpretation of deep‐water channel deposits is challenging because the spatial arrangement their constituent lithologies highly variable. This variability often thought to be a signature complex interactions between controlling boundary conditions and processes. A three‐dimensional forward stratigraphic model sinuous meandering used explore production channelised stratigraphy. highlights three stages evolution for belts: (1) an initial phase rapid growth in mean belt width driven by increasing sinuosity; (2) subsequent reduced belt‐width rate cutoff processes; (3) mature during which repeated bend lifecycles act produce statistically stable channel‐belt width. When trajectory defining vertical movement over time added model, commonly recognised patterns stratigraphy are produced. These results demonstrate how models provide insights into processes governing that elude interpretations static outcrops seismic images subsurface examples.

Deepwater Reservoir Modeling Using Sequence-Stratigraphic and Geomorphic Constraints
In deepwater-reservoir modeling, it is important to properly represent the spatial distribution of architectural elements to account for pore-volume distribution and the connectivity of reservoir sand bodies. This is especially critical for rock and fluid-volume estimates, reservoirperformance predictions, and development-well planning. This new integrated stochastic reservoirmodeling approach ...

متن کاملTwo models: global sea-level change and sequence stratigraphic architecture
Two different conceptual models underlie the application of sequence stratigraphy by Exxon stratigraphers and later researchers. One, the global sea-level model (GSM), relates to presumed sea-level behaviour through time; the other, the sequence stratigraphic model (SSM), relates to the stratigraphic record produced during a single cycle of sea-level change. Though the two models are inter-rela...
متن کاملSimulation of Stratigraphic Architecture from Statistical and Geometrical Characterizations1
Stratigraphic modeling based on physical and geologic principles has been improved by more sophisticated process models and increased computer power. However, such efforts may reach a limit in their predictive power because of the stochastic, multiscaled nature of the physical processes involved. Building on techniques from the geostatistical literature, a conditional simulation method, dubbed ...
متن کاملForeland basin stratigraphic control on thrust belt evolution
The link between orogenic activity and foreland basin stratigraphy is well established; however, potential controls by foreland basin stratigraphy on thrust belt architecture have not been fully evaluated. Mechanical properties of typical foreland basin stratigraphic successions influence the structural development of fold-thrust belts in predictable ways. Fundamental features of foreland basin...
